Tokyo Revengers continues to dominate the Japanese SVOD Platforms as it remains the Most Popular Anime in Japan on August 2021.
GEM Partners has unveiled their list for the Most Popular Anime in Japan in the month of August 2021, and Tokyo Revengers has continued to dominate the Japanese television and streaming services for the second month in a row as it holds its title as the Most-Watched TV Series in Japan.
Tokyo Revengers first climbed to the Top 5 in May after debuting at 37th in April. The series has continued to see a meteoric rise in popularity since, and if you have been following the manga sales, you already know what we are talking about.
Meanwhile, with the release of the latest Eva movie, Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time, many people have gone on to revisit the original anime which has led to the anime rising up 17 spots being the second most-watched anime in Japan in August. Neon Genesis Evangelion was 19th on the list last month.
My Hero Academia came down a spot from its position as the second most popular anime in Japan in July to the third spot now but is still going strong as the fifth season of the anime approaches its conclusion with one of its most pivotal arcs, My Villain Academia, alongside the release of its third anime original movie, My Hero Academia: World Heroes Mission. The movie has made more than $25 million in the Japanese Box Office so far.
The second part of the latest season of That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime also seemed to be doing very well as the show has gone up two spots from July and is now the 4th most-watched anime series in Japan. Popular anime series like One Piece and Kingdom have also continued to remain in the Top 10.

Case Closed has now fallen down to 7th, while Jujutsu Kaisen is currently at the 10th spot. Attack on Titan, which was previously on the 10th spot in July has now fallen to the 15th place.
Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid S is the newest entry among the Top 20 as it is now the 11th most popular anime in Japan, a massive boost in popularity compared to its 35th position in July.
Crayon Shin-chan follows Dragon Maid as the popular family anime has moved up to the 12th spot.
The surprise snub from the Top 20 this month was To Your Eternity, which recently got its renewal for a Second Season alongside Dragon Quest, which couldn’t make it to the list either after managing to break into the list for the first time last month.
