Haikyuu Movies: The Good, The Bad, The Copium

Get ready, Haikyuu!! fans! After nine years, the Haikyuu!! anime will be concluding its run with two final movies. The first of these movies will be covering the big-awaited showdown between Karasuno and Nekoma High, the first teaser for which is out now, and you can check it out on YouTube here.

Hinata and Kenma are front and centre in the first teaser for the Haikyuu!! Movie.

If you’re a big fan of the series, you know that Karasuno and Nekoma are getting ready for an epic face-off and that this epic battle has been set in motion since the very first season of the anime. The first teaser of the movie puts Hinata and Kenma front and centre as they finally get their fated match, a match with no second chances, and it all just looks so exciting. We have been waiting a long time for this, and it looks like Production IG (who have been doing the series since the very first episode) are not holding back.

Yuki Hayashi is back to do the score for the film, and Mitsunaka Susumu, who directed the first three seasons, is back for the movie.

The switch from TV to just Two Movies for the finale does come as a disappointment to fans.

The news of the movies does come as a disappointment to longtime fans, considering there is still a good chunk of the series, almost 1/3rd left to be animated, which just could not be covered in two movies. But with the announcement that the first movie is going to only cover The Battle at The Garbage Dump, we can all breathe a sigh of relief as the coveted match won’t be entirely rushed.

It does leave you off with a sour taste of its own that, in all likelihood, we won’t be getting the final arc of the Haikyuu manga, aka the Timeskip arc animated, and the anime series will, in all probability, just end at Nationals.

This really downplays the completely full-circle story that Furudate-sensei has written and seemingly robs us of the promised Kageyama and Hinata rematch, but one can only hope that this is not a complete goodbye for the Haikyuu anime and just like Gintama, we hopefully see multiple Finales down the road one day.

The Haikyuu!! Movie: Battle of the Garbage Dump will be released in Japanese Theatres on February 16, 2024.

The Haikyuu!! manga by Haruichi Furudate has been a rollercoaster of emotions, and these new movies are about to bring everything to a grand finale. The Haikyuu!! Movie: Battle of the Garbage Dump will be released in Japanese Theatres on February 16, 2024.
