Top 20 Most Watched TV Series in Japan (July 2021); My Hero Academia Climbs to Second

Tokyo Revengers has dethroned Jujutsu Kaisen to become the Most Popular Anime in Japan on SVOD Platforms for July 2021.

GEM Partners has finally unveiled their list for the Most Popular Anime in Japan in the month of July 2021, and Jujutsu Kaisen has finally been dethroned for the first time since the start of the year as the Most-Watched TV Series in Japan.

Jujutsu Kaisen lost its crown after enjoying a six-month-long run at the top, and it was none other than Kodansha’s insanely popular new anime, Tokyo Revengers, which took its place at the top.

Tokyo Revengers first climbed to the Top 5 in May after debuting at 37th in April. The series has continued to see a meteoric rise in popularity since, and if you have been following the manga sales, you already know what I’m talking about.

Tokyo Revengers also managed to rank among the Top 20 most-streamed TV series in Japan for the first half of the year.

My Hero Academia, which was the 6th most popular anime in Japan in May and 10th overall for the first half of the year, took the second spot following the broadcast of its Endeavor Agency Arc and amidst the ongoing hype in the country for the series’ upcoming movie, My Hero Academia: World Heroes Mission.

Meanwhile, Demon Slayer and Case Closed continues to be on Top 5 alongside Jujutsu Kaisen.

The second part of the latest season of That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime also started airing in July giving the show an extra boost landing it up on the sixth spot. While veteran popular series like One Piece and Kingdom continues to be on Top 10.

Attack on Titan also continues to enjoy its stellar run this year as the anime placed tenth in July following its finish at the Top 3 most-watched anime of 2021 in the first half of the year.

To Your Eternity is also doing impressively in the streaming services as the show managed to rank amongst the Top 15 for the third month in a row.

Other notable anime entries include Evangelion, which got a huge boost following the release of its latest theatrical film earlier this year, and Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai, which has managed to be in the Top 20 for the first time since its release.
