Top 10 Most Watched Anime of August 2022: One Piece vs Doraemon

With the release of One Piece Film: Red, the One Piece anime has now become the Most Watched Anime of August 2022 in Japan. See the full list featuring Doraemon, SPY x FAMILY, and Lycoris Recoil.

 

One Piece has now become the Most Watched TV Show in Japanese Streaming and VOD Services with the release of One Piece Film: Red. The anime has also seen a viewership jump in Live TV ratings,  according to Video Research Ltd., and has hit over 2.5 Million Viewers for the first time in a couple of months with the broadcast of the bridge episode for the movie.

The episode sees Young Luffy meeting Uta, Shanks’ daughter, who is the movie’s main focus.

One Piece Film: Red has now surpassed $70 Million in Box Office Gross.

 

One Piece Film: Red is now the Second Highest Grossing Film of 2022 in Japan, making over 9.6 Billion Yen ($72 Million) in just eighteen days of its release. Top Gun: Maverick is currently the Highest-Grossing Film in Japan this year so far, earning over 11.4 Billion Yen.

The One Piece film has also become the highest-grossing movie of the franchise, surpassing One Piece: Film Z, which made 6.8 Billion Yen ($50.5 Million) during the entirety of its run in just over two weekends.

Within the first three weekends, the latest One Piece film has already seen over 6.8 million admissions.

Meanwhile, the Kingdom anime is currently the Second Most Watched TV Show in Japanese streaming and VOD services.

The anime might not quite live up to the standard the manga has set for the series but the past two seasons have been a massive improvement over the first two seasons, which were tremendously criticised for the heavy use of CGI.


The anime has been immensely popular among both the younger and older audiences in Japan, and the series’ popularity has shot up with the anime moving towards the conclusion of the latest season of the beloved seinen.

SPY x FAMILY has been among the Top 3 Most Watched Anime in Japan for 20 consecutive weeks.

SPY x FAMILY has caught the eye of everyone, even the casual anime fans. The hype surrounding this series has been insane, and the anime has become a global phenomenon. 

SPY x FAMILY was the Most Watched TV Show on Japanese Streaming and VOD Services among almost every age demographic and both the male and female audiences for 14 consecutive weeks before the first week of August.

The series has also been among the Top 3 for 20 consecutive weeks now and is currently the Third Most Popular Anime in Japan.

 

The anime’s success has resulted in the manga series selling more than 7 million copies this year already in Japan. And even in the USA, the manga has been one of the Best-Selling Graphic Novels and Comics during the past few months.

SPY x FAMILY is scheduled to release new information about the second cour of the series which premieres this October, later this week.

 

Most Watched Anime Japan: Doraemon

Meanwhile, Doraemon has re-entered the list and taken the fourth spot with the latest Doraemon movie, Doraemon: Nobita’s Little Star Wars 2021, now streaming exclusively on Amazon Prime Video. The film was also a huge success at the domestic box office and made over 2.6 Billion Yen ($20 Million). 

 

Lycoris Recoil is the Most-Watched Anime from the Summer Season.

Lycoris Recoil is now the Most-Watched Anime from the summer season as it dethrones Overlord to take the sixth spot overall. The original anime by A-1 pictures has taken many by surprise and has been the favourite new anime of the season among the anime community.

Lycoris Recoil is also the Highest-Rated Non-Sequel Anime of the Season on MyAnimeList. And we honestly just can’t recommend it enough to you. Go check it out.

Overlord, which returned with its fourth season after four years last month, takes the 7th spot on the list. While Call of the Night has re-entered the Top 10.
