Jujutsu Kaisen has started the fiscal year of 2022 in its glorious style as the manga series has returned to take back the first spot in Oricon Monthly Charts from Tokyo Revengers which has been at the first spot for six consecutive months prior to January. Within the first two months of the fiscal year of 2022, Jujutsu Kaisen has already sold almost 5 million copies as it remains the Most Popular Ongoing Manga in Japan.
The release of a new volume as well as the prequel movie during Christmas has given yet another boost to the manga series and shot Jujutsu Kaisen back up the Oricon charts with almost all of the volumes for the series selling over 100,000 copies in backlogs during January.
Jujutsu Kaisen Volume 18 was the 3rd Most Popular Manga Volume of December 2021 as it sold over 667,857 copies in just two days and was the Best-Selling Volume of January 2022 selling over a whopping 1 million copies. The series also saw a huge 288% boost in the sales of its backlogs within the first week of the release of the prequel anime movie.
The movie has been a huge success and is already the 10th Highest Grossing Japanese Movie Ever at the Domestic Box Office.
Jujutsu Kaisen has also officially confirmed that the Second Season of the anime is in production at MAPPA and is scheduled to come out in 2023.
The Tokyo Revengers manga series had been seeing a steady decline ever since the anime aired its last episode in September but with the release of Volume 25 of the series, which has sold over 950,000 copies as of January 30, even the backlogs have gotten another significant boost with the manga series already selling over 3.2 million copies this year.
One Piece is currently on the third spot with Volume 101 of the series selling over 1,535,000 copies in December. The series has also sold over 250,0o0 copies in backlogs during this fiscal year once again proving that the One Piece hype train never exactly goes off steam. Volume 101 has sold more than 1.65 million copies in Japan so far.
Meanwhile, with the broadcast of the Entertainment District Arc, Demon Slayer also continues to be in the Top 5 with over 1.2 million copies sold this year.
Mystery to Iu Nakare is in 5th place following the success of its Television Drama Adaptation which started last month on Fuji TV. The manga series has already sold over 1.23 Million Copies in the fiscal year of 2022.
The bottom half of the Top 10 includes Kaiju No. 8, which has sold over 898,000 copies and is in 6th place following the release of its latest volume in December.
Kaiju No. 8 and Kusuriya no Hitorigoto (The Apothecary Diaries) are the only manga in the Top 20 without a TV adaptation. Hitorigoto has sold over 310,000 copies so far this year and is 19th on the list. It should be noted that The Apothecary Diaries is a manga adaptation of the beloved light novel of the same name.
World Trigger is in 7th place with the conclusion of the third season of anime triggering the sales of the backlogs of the series. The manga also released a new volume in December which has helped the series in already selling over 750,000 copies this year.
My Hero Academia is coming off from its most successful year yet in 2021 where it even outdid One Piece to become the 5th Best-Selling Manga Series of the year. The manga is currently in the 8th spot selling over 709,000 copies within the first two months of this fiscal year.
The manga series recently released its latest tankobon volume, which will likely see the series go to 6th place next month.
That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime is in the 9th place selling over 625,000 copies so far.
Blue Lock continues to have a solid run as the series is currently the 10th Most Popular Manga of the fiscal year of 2022 in Japan selling over 600,00 copies. The series has been enjoying a solid boost in the sales of its backlogs ever since the announcement of the anime adaptation. If this is any hint of how things will progress when the anime starts airing, Kodansha has another blockbuster in their hands right now.
Some notable entries in the bottom half of the list include Dr. Stone, which is in the 14th place selling over 450,000 copies so far and One Punch Man in the 15th place as it has sold over 400,000 copies already during this fiscal year, both with the help of their recent volumes.
