Top 25 Most Popular Manga Series of 2022 So Far; Jujutsu Kaisen Vs Tokyo Revengers

Jujutsu Kaisen remains the Most Popular Manga Series of 2022 as it crosses over 6 million copies in sales within the first three months of the fiscal year.

Jujutsu Kaisen has continued its incredibly consistent run from 2021, thanks to the boost the series has gotten since the release of the prequel movie, Jujutsu Kaisen 0, as the manga series has now already sold more than 6 million copies within the first three months of the fiscal year of 2022 and remains the Most Popular Ongoing Manga Series in Japan.

Jujutsu Kaisen Volume 18 was the 3rd Most Popular Manga Volume of December 2021 as it sold over 667,857 copies in just two days and was the Best-Selling Manga Volume of January 2022 selling over a whopping 1 million copies.

The series also saw a huge 288% boost in the sales of its backlogs within the first week of the release of the prequel anime movie. The movie has been a huge success and is already the 9th Highest Grossing Japanese Movie Ever at the Domestic Box Office making over 12 Billion Yen.

The film is scheduled to be released in the United States, United Kingdom, and Canada this Friday.

The manga additionally sold 1.07 million copies in February with the backlogs continuing their tremendous haul.

Jujutsu Kaisen has also officially confirmed that the Second Season of the anime is in production at MAPPA and is scheduled to come out in 2023.                      

 

Most Popular Manga of 2022; Jujutsu Kaisen

 Tokyo Revengers, which had been at the top of the Oricon Monthly Charts for six consecutive months prior to January returned to the first spot once again with the release of Volume 26 of the series in February. The latest volume has already sold 784,921 copies within the first 18 days of release.

Tokyo Revengers had been seeing a steady decline ever since the anime aired its last episode in September but with the release of Volume 25 of the series in Mid-December, which has sold over 1.04 million copies as of March 6, even the backlogs have gotten yet another significant boost.

The manga series sold 1.411 million copies during February which is on par with the previous month.

One Piece is currently on the third spot with Volume 101 being released in December. Volume 101 has sold more than 1.65 million copies in Japan so far while the series has also sold over 300,0o0 copies in backlogs during this fiscal year, once again proving that the One Piece hype train never exactly goes off steam.

Meanwhile, with the conclusion of the broadcast of the Entertainment District Arc, Demon Slayer also continues to be in the Top 5 with over 2 million copies sold this year. 

Most Popular Manga Series of 2022 So Far: Mystery to Iu Nakare, Oshi no Ko and Kaiju No. 8 Nominated for Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize.

Mystery to Iu Nakare is the 5th Most Popular Manga in Japan right now following the success of its Television Drama Adaptation which premiered in January on Fuji TV. The TV Series starring Masaki Suda has been scoring more than 20 million viewers every week with Live+7 DVR viewing and the manga series has already sold over 1.8 Million Copies in the fiscal year of 2022.

Mystery to Iu Nakare has also been nominated for the Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize alongside Young Jump’s Oshi no Ko, JoJolion ( (JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure Part 8), and Kaiju No. 8 from Jump+.

Kaiju No. 8 is currently in 7th place in the list following the release of its latest volume last week which has already sold 269,000 copies in just 3 days. The series has sold over an estimated total of 1.3 million copies this fiscal year so far.

Kaiju No. 8 also won the Next Manga Awards of 2021 for Best Manga (Digital Category) and is the only manga in the Top 10 without a TV adaptation.

Oshi no Ko, which won the Next Manga Awards of 2021 for Best Manga (Print Category) is in the 24th spot selling over 430,000 copies.

Meanwhile, My Hero Academia is coming off from its most successful year yet in 2021 where it even outdid One Piece to become the 5th Best-Selling Manga Series of the year. Volume 33 of My Hero Academia was released on the first Friday of February and according to Weekly Oricon Charts, the volume has already sold 691,172 copies within the first 31 days of the release, which is the series’ best-performing volume ever within that time frame.

The series is currently in the 6th spot selling over 1.77 million copies within the first three months of this fiscal year.

Kingdom is in the 8th spot following the release of Volume 64 of the series. The latest volume of the series has sold over 548,000 copies within 17 days of its release, bringing the yearly total of the manga series to over 1.2 Million Copies.

World Trigger is the 9th Most Popular Manga of the year right now with the conclusion of the third season of anime triggering the sales of the backlogs of the series. The manga also released a new volume in December which has helped the series in already selling over an estimated 1,000,000 copies this year.

Most Popular Manga of 2022; My Dress-Up Darling

The breakout hit of Winter 2022 Anime Season, My Dress-Up Darling has now sold over 835,000 copies ever since the start of the anime and has now jumped up to the 10th spot in Oricon’s yearly charts. The series is turning out to be the biggest Romance hit since the anime adaptation of Rent-a-Girlfriend, which helped in selling over 2 million copies for the manga series that year.

My Dress-Up Darling sold over 299,000 copies in January and over 406,000 copies in February.  

Both the first and the most recent volume charted in the Oricon Weekly Top 50 recently with the first volume bringing its cumulative total to over 345,000 copies. 

Blue Lock also continues to have a solid run as the series is currently the 11th Most Popular Manga of the fiscal year of 2022 in Japan selling over 865,000 copies already. The series has been enjoying a solid boost in the sales of its backlogs ever since the announcement of the anime adaptation. If this is any hint of how things will progress when the anime starts airing, Kodansha has another blockbuster in their hands right now.

Haikyuu!! is in 12th place selling over 810,000 copies so far. The series recently announced a bunch of upcoming projects including a new One-Shot during the manga’s 10th anniversary. The final volume of the series was released in November 2020 while the latest season of the anime concluded in December 2020 and despite that, the series continues to have a very solid and praiseworthy run in Oricon every month.

Some other notable entries in the bottom half of the list include Dr. Stone, which is in the 15th place selling over 750,000 copies within this fiscal year so far. Volume 24 of Dr. Stone was released in January where it sold 204,992 copies in its first month while Volume 25 of the series has already sold over 74,000 copies in its first three days of release.

The manga came to an end in the Weekly Shonen Jump last week.

Attack on Titan has sold over 610,000 copies in backlogs thanks to the commencement of the broadcast of Part 2 of the anime’s fourth and final season, the series is currently in 19th place on the list.

One Punch Man is in the 20th place as it has sold over 500,000 copies already during this fiscal year with the release of its latest tankobon volume in December.

Komi Can’t Communicate also enjoyed a consistent boost in the backlogs of the series for a while thanks to the broadcast of the first season of the anime as the manga series has sold over 485,000 copies.
