Most Popular Anime in Japan 2022; Demon Slayer Season 2

The anime has been at the top of the Weekly Charts ever since the premiere of the TV Version of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba: Mugen Train in October.

Demon Slayer has been on top for 21 consecutive weeks and has been the Most Popular TV Show in every streaming service and VOD service in Japan by a huge margin with the exception of Disney+, which doesn’t have Demon Slayer in its platform.

Most Popular Anime in Japan 2022; Attack on Titan

Attack on Titan is the second most popular title in Japanese streaming services right now, which doesn’t really come as a surprise knowing the insane hype that has surrounded the series ever since the premiere of Part 2 of Attack on Titan Season 4 in January, with the anime delivering some of the best episodes of television you’ll ever see.

Part 2 of Attack on Titan: The Final Season will conclude on April 3, and although we don’t have any new information regarding a potential sequel just yet, this certainly won’t be the end of this decade-defining masterpiece.

Demon Slayer has taken the first spot between every single age demographic and gender in Japan while Attack on Titan has been in the second spot for the same with the exception of the elderly demographic of age 60+.

WIT Studio’s passionate and enchanting adaptation of Ranking of Kings has climbed up one spot further as it has moved to the third spot leaving Jujutsu Kaisen behind. The series has simply been phenomenal delivering some truly spectacular episodes of television every single week. Ranking of Kings has slowly developed a huge following in Japan as the anime has left several big titles behind despite the fact that it is only available to stream exclusively on Amazon Prime Video.

Jujutsu Kaisen is in the fourth spot following the release of the prequel movie during Christmas. The movie has made over 12 Billion Yen at the Japanese Box Office and sits as the 9th Highest Grossing Japanese Movie Ever at the Domestic Box Office.

Meanwhile, One Piece and Detective Conan remain as consistent as ever as they take the next two spots on the list.

One Piece however is scheduled to now go on an indefinite hiatus following an unfortunate hacking incident at Toei Animation where the culprits accessed the studio’s network and main website long enough to shut down several of its systems, which has resulted in the studio delaying several of its big titles such as One Piece and Digimon indefinitely.

My Dress-Up Darling has been the biggest new hit of the Winter 2022 anime season and is in the 7th spot on the list. The series is turning out to be the Most Succesful Romance hit since the anime adaptation of Rent-a-Girlfriend with the manga getting a huge boost and closing on to sell more than a million copies by the end of this month.

The Bluray and DVD discs for My Dress-Up Darling are set to drop with special editions next week.

Pokemon is in the 8th spot with the exclusive release of the Pokemon Legends: Arceus Special Anime Episodes on Amazon Prime Video in late January.

A set of 2 special episodes called “God Arceus” were released to commemorate the release of the latest game in the franchise, Pokemon Legends: Arceus, which followed Dawn, Ash and Go in their journey as they explore the Hisui region.

Some more recent releases take the last two spots, with Heike Monogatari being in the penultimate position and Winter 2022 release Police in a Pod taking the final spot.

Police in a Pod is a seinen Slice of Life Comedy by Madhouse. The series follows Mai Kawai, a new police officer who only decided to take the job due to a desire to have a stable income. But as she becomes frustrated and disappointed with her boring career path, she decides to resign from the police force. On the day she planned to submit her resignation, she meets Seiko Fuji, who had been reassigned to serve as the director of her station.

Seiko’s dedication to the police force inspires Kawai and gives her fresh hope as she decides to delay her resignation and give her career as a police officer another shot. The series follows the two and other members of her police force solving crimes in their local area.

Police in a Pod previously won the 66th Shogakukan Manga Award in the general category for 2021 and is available to watch in Funimation around the world and Muse Asia in Southeast Asian countries.
