Mob Psycho 100 Season 3 is Officially Coming! What We Know So Far

Mob Psycho 100 is officially returning for Season 3. The third outing of this beloved anime has been just announced after a much anticipated 100-days long countdown on the anime’s Twitter handle.

The first PV for the next season has also been released alongside a brand new key visual.

Studio Bones will once again be in charge of producing the anime with the episode director from Season 2, Takahiro Hasui, taking the role of the series director as Yuzuru Tachikawa will serve as the chief director for Season 3.

Takahiro previously directed the sixth episode of the second season titled ‘Poor, Lonely, Whitey.’

Hiroshi Seko will also be returning as the series composer and writer while Kenji Kawai will be returning as the music composer.

Mob Psycho 100 began its serialization on Shogakukan’s Ura Sunday website in April 2012. The series is written and illustrated by ONE, who has also written One-Punch Man. An anime adaptation by Studio Bones was announced on Ura Sunday in December 2015.

The anime premiered in 2016 and ran for 12 episodes. The series was directed by Yuzuru Tachikawa (Deca-Dence, Death Parade) and written by Hiroshi Seko (Attack on Titan, Banana Fish).

The staff and the cast returned for a second season that aired during the Winter 2019 anime season.

The series also has two OVAs, the first one titled ‘Mob Psycho 100 Reigen -The Miraculous Unknown Psychic’ was released in March 2018. The OVA was a compilation of the first season of the anime series and featured new scenes centered on Reigen.

While a second OVA titled ‘The Spirits and Such Consultation Office’s First Company Outing ~A Healing Trip that Warms the Heart‘ was released in 2019.

The manga came to an end in 2017 and has been collected into 16 tankobon volumes. Mob Psycho 100 was confirmed to have 1.2 million copies in circulation in 2016.

The anime follows the story of Shigeo Kageyama, a psychic middle school boy who is trying to live a normal life. Kageyama could bend a spoon and lift things with his mind from a young age, but he slowly began to withhold from using his ability in public due to the negative attention he keeps receiving. Now in middle school, the only thing he wants is to become a friend with this girl in his class, Tsubomi. Together with his mentor, Reigen, he continues to live his daily life, attempting to realize his purpose in life and learning to love himself.

Mob Psycho 100 was undoubtedly one of the best anime to have come out in the 2010s. The anime has been continuously praised for its stellar animation and its brilliant writing.

The story’s heart lies in its protagonist Shigeo Kageyama and his kind compassionate nature. The anime holds a special place in the hearts of its fans for its simpler but more non-conventional approaches.

Where other anime might go down in a more black and white way, the show appeals to the good in every human’s heart and approaches the power of empathy and kindness without sacrificing the main needs of the narrative and the story.

Its unique art style and the staff’s passion and love for this series have resulted in some of the most mesmerizing action sequences of the past few years.  

Mob Psycho 100 has also been adapted into a 12-episodes long Japanese TV Drama series which is available to watch on Netflix.
