Best Selling Manga Series of 2022 So Far; My Hero Academia Breaks Records

Jujutsu Kaisen has started the fiscal year of 2022 in its glorious style as the manga series has returned to take back the first spot in Oricon Monthly Charts from Tokyo Revengers which has been at the top for six consecutive months prior to January.

Within the first two and a half months of the fiscal year of 2022, Jujutsu Kaisen has already sold more than 5.5 million copies as it remains the Most Popular Ongoing Manga in Japan.

The release of a new volume as well as the prequel movie during Christmas has given yet another boost to the manga series and shot Jujutsu Kaisen back up the Oricon charts with almost all of the volumes for the series selling over 100,000 copies in backlogs during January.

Jujutsu Kaisen Volume 18 was the 3rd Most Popular Manga Volume of December 2021 as it sold over 667,857 copies in just two days and was the Best-Selling Volume of January 2022 selling over a whopping 1 million copies. The series also saw a huge 288% boost in the sales of its backlogs within the first week of the release of the prequel anime movie.

The movie has been a huge success and is already the 10th Highest Grossing Japanese Movie Ever at the Domestic Box Office.

Jujutsu Kaisen has also officially confirmed that the Second Season of the anime is in production at MAPPA and is scheduled to come out in 2023.

The Tokyo Revengers manga series had been seeing a steady decline ever since the anime aired its last episode in September but with the release of Volume 25 of the series, which has sold over 989,000 copies as of February 14, even the backlogs have gotten another significant boost with the manga series already selling over 3.61 million copies this fiscal year.

One Piece is currently on the third spot with Volume 101 of the series selling over 1,535,000 copies in December. The series has also sold over 250,0o0 copies in backlogs during this fiscal year once again proving that the One Piece hype train never exactly goes off steam. Volume 101 has sold more than 1.65 million copies in Japan so far.

Meanwhile, with the broadcast of the Entertainment District Arc, Demon Slayer also continues to be in the Top 5 with over 1.53 million copies sold this year. 

Best Selling Manga Series of 2022 So Far: Mystery to Iu Nakare and Kaiju No. 8 Nominated for Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize.

Mystery to Iu Nakare is in 5th place following the success of its Television Drama Adaptation which started last month on Fuji TV. The TV Series starring Masaki Suda has been scoring more than 20 million viewers every week with Live+7 DVR viewing and the manga series has already sold over 1.5 Million Copies in the fiscal year of 2022.

Mystery to Iu Nakare has also been nominated for the Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize alongside Young Jump’s Oshi no Ko, JoJolion ( (JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure Part 8), and Kaiju No. 8 from Jump+.

Kaiju No. 8 is currently in 7th place in the list following the release of its latest volume in December and has sold over an estimated 950,000 copies.

Kaiju No. 8 is also the only manga in the Top 20 without a TV adaptation. 

Best Selling Manga Series of 2022 So Far; My Hero Academia Volume 33 Shatters Series Records.

My Hero Academia is coming off from its most successful year yet in 2021 where it even outdid One Piece to become the 5th Best-Selling Manga Series of the year. Volume 33 of My Hero Academia was released on the first Friday of February and according to Weekly Oricon Charts, the volume has already sold 548,240 copies within just 10 days, which is the series’ best-performing volume ever within just two weeks of the release.

The record was previously held by Volume 32 which had sold 539,731 copies within the same timeframe. The series is currently in the 6th spot selling almost 1.4 million copies within the first two and a half months of this fiscal year.

World Trigger is in 8th place with the conclusion of the third season of anime triggering the sales of the backlogs of the series. The manga also released a new volume in December which has helped the series in already selling over an estimated 800,000 copies this year. 

Blue Lock continues to have a solid run as the series is currently the 9th Most Popular Manga of the fiscal year of 2022 in Japan selling over 690,00 copies already. The series has been enjoying a solid boost in the sales of its backlogs ever since the announcement of the anime adaptation. If this is any hint of how things will progress when the anime starts airing, Kodansha has another blockbuster in their hands right now.

Haikyuu!! is in 10th place selling over 659,000 copies so far. The series announced a bunch of upcoming projects including a One-Shot at this week’s Weekly Shonen Jump issue for the manga’s 10th anniversary.

Best Selling Manga Series of 2022: My Dress-Up Darling

The breakout hit of Winter 2022 Anime Season, My Dress-Up Darling has sold over 506,000 copies ever since the start of the anime with the series selling over 299,000 copies in January and over 200,000 copies in just the past two weeks of this month.

Both the first and the most recent volume charted in the Oricon Weekly Top 50 recently with the first volume nagging an additional 13,000 copies to bring its cumulative total to 335,893 copies. 

My Dress-Up Darling Volume 8 meanwhile has sold 177,100 copies so far. With an estimated 525,000 copies sold within this fiscal year, the series currently ranks at the 14th spot.

Attack on Titan has sold over 522,000 copies in backlogs thanks to the commencement of the broadcast of Part 2 of the anime’s fourth and final season and takes the 15th place on the list.

Some other notable entries in the bottom half of the list include Dr. Stone, which is in the 16th place selling over 450,000 copies so far and One Punch Man in the 17th place as it has sold over 410,000 copies already during this fiscal year, both with the help of their recent volumes.

Volume 24 of Dr. Stone sold 204,992 copies in its first month while Volume 24 of One Punch Man sold 315,834 copies in the same time frame in December.

Komi Can’t Communicate is also enjoying a consistent boost thanks to the anime as the manga series has sold over 405,000 copies with the conclusion of the anime.
