Halfway through the year, and it has been a delight for anime fans, who have seen some great sleeper hits in the form of Ya Boy Kongming and Summer-Time Rendering this year so far, alongside plenty of high-profile sequels such as Demon Slayer Season 2 and Attack on Titan Season 4, both of which created a never before seen hype on social media amongst the anime community every week. And who can forget Kaguya-sama: Love is War Season 3 (certainly not the Fullmetal Alchemist trolls), as the series has become the highest-rated anime of all time on MyAnimeList

We have also been blessed with the wholesome and record-shattering SPY x FAMILY, which has quickly become a fan-favourite and has instantly become the talk of the town. And if we are talking about wholesome new titles, Marin Kitagawa and Gojo Wakana from My Dress-Up Darling certainly had the entire anime community in the feels during the first three months of the year.

2022 has already been a great year for anime, and we still have the likes of Chainsaw Man, the return of Bleach, and Mob Psycho 100 Season 3 to look forward to. And these are just some of the highly anticipated titles for the year amongst a stack of much-awaited new and returning anime that are coming out this season and later this year.

According to the Japanese Audience, Attack on Titan Season 4 is the Best Anime of 2022 So Far.

Best Anime 2022: Attack on Titan Season 4

With an aggregate score of 4.43 out of 5 on Filmarks, Attack on Titan Season 4 is currently the Highest-Rated Anime of 2022 amongst the Japanese audience.

Escalating the stakes by tenfolds in the final season, Attack on Titan Season 4 depicts a haunting portrayal of racism, humanity, and the cycle of violence. With stakes higher than ever, confrontations that are bone-chilling and Isayama’s genius storytelling displaying an intricately woven concept where each plot point acts as a node knitting the story together. The anime is nothing less than a masterpiece, and it hardly is a surprise why the series is so beloved and highly regarded by the mainstream audience.

Part 2 of Attack on Titan Season 4 came to an end on April 3rd with the 87th episode of the series as the anime is set to wrap up its run with a third and final part next year that will cover the remaining nine chapters of the manga series.

Kaguya-sama: Love is War Season 3 leaves SPY x FAMILY behind.

Best Anime 2022: Kaguya-sama Love is War Season 3

SPY x FAMILY might be the most popular anime of the spring season, but Kaguya-sama: Love is War has left it behind when it comes to viewers’ satisfaction.

The third season of the beloved anime was the culmination of the entire series. It was hilarious, it was romantic, and it went an extra mile to be more meaningful than ever. From subtle moments which were built throughout the last three seasons, like Kaguya learning about Shirogane’s shortcomings and ending up finding it endearing, to the grand rap battle, which served a heartfelt purpose and a character arc in its own. The entire season just tugged to our heartstrings and really hit home.

Kaguya-sama: Love is War Season 3 truly makes the case that the anime is a Modern Classic.

SPY x FAMILY takes the third place on the list with an aggregate score of 4.28.

Nothing comes as a surprise when it comes to this particular anime. The series has taken over the anime community around the world with its heart, humour and a wide variety of elements that add to its universal appeal. SPY x FAMILY is an anime that most people can enjoy, whether be it by themselves or with their little kids and parents.

SPY x FAMILY was also the Most-Watched Anime broadcast every week in Japan during its entirety of the run, drawing an average of 7.5 million viewers for its first cour with Live+7 DVR figures.

Demon Slayer Season 2 is not amongst Filmarks’ Top 5 Best Anime of 2022.

The first batch of episodes of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure Part 6: Stone Ocean started airing on Japanese television in Winter 2022. The series is currently in the fourth spot on the half-yearly list with a score of 4.25 out of 5. Meanwhile, Heike Monogatari is in the fifth spot.

Demon Slayer Season 2, despite its popularity, did not make the Top 5 and is currently at the eighth spot with a score of 4.18.

Several titles from the Spring anime season have also made their way into the list, with the second season of Komi Can’t Communicate making its way to the Top 10, with an aggregate score of 4.12.

The massively under-watched Summer-Time Rendering has also made the list alongside Ao Ashi and Tiger and Bunny Season 2. Summer-Time Rendering has been praised by both the critics and the general audience but has suffered heavily since its availability being exclusively on Disney+.

My Dress-Up Darling has fallen out of the Top 10 and is in the 11th spot on the list with an aggregate score of 4.09. The series was the biggest new hit of the Winter 2022 anime season and is one of the Most Popular Anime of the year so far.

The first disc of My Dress-Up Darling sold over 10,000 copies, pulling one of the most significant numbers for a romance anime within the last decade. The anime was also wildly popular in streaming, and the manga is now going head-to-head with Kaguya-sama: Love is War in terms of per volume sales.
