Jujutsu Kaisen remains the Best-Selling Manga of 2022, selling more than 9.6 million copies so far this year. Meanwhile, SPY x FAMILY is closing in on Tokyo Revengers.
The 80s and 90s are considered the Golden Age of Manga, where the hype surrounding titles like Dragon Ball, Slam Dunk, and Yu Yu Hakusho was insurmountable. In 1995, the manga market in Japan was valued at ¥586.4 billion ($4.61 billion), with annual sales of 1.9 billion manga volumes and magazines in the country (which at that time was equivalent to 15 issues per person). A ridiculously huge figure.
More than 25 years later, in 2020, with the never before seen success of seismic proportions with Demon Slayer, Japan’s manga market value hit a new record of ¥612.6 billion ($4.83 billion).
Demon Slayer revamped the popularity of manga in Japan. And with the introduction of new heavy-hitters such as Jujutsu Kaisen and Tokyo Revengers, once again in 2021, the sales of print and electronic manga and manga magazines in Japan increased by 10.3%, to ¥675.9 billion ($5.33 billion), marking the second consecutive annual record high.
Today, we are taking a look at the Top 25 Best-Selling Manga Series of this year so far. Let’s get started.
1. Jujutsu Kaisen
Jujutsu Kaisen manga has now sold more than 9.6 million copies this year, and with the release of Volume 19 of the series in April, it comfortably sits atop the Oricon Yearly Charts.
The latest instalment in the series has become the third Best-Selling Manga Volume of 2022 as it has sold more than 1.7 million copies so far.
Jujutsu Kaisen Volume 18, which was released in December 2021, is currently the Best-Selling Manga Volume for the fiscal year of 2022, with more than 2 million copies sold.
Jujutsu Kaisen has also notably sold over 6 million copies in backlogs this year with the help of the boost in sales the series has gotten ever since the release of the prequel movie, Jujutsu Kaisen 0, continuing its incredibly consistent run from 2021.
The movie, Jujutsu Kaisen 0, has been a huge success and is already the 9th Highest-Grossing Japanese Movie Ever at the Domestic Box Office, making over 13.5 Billion Yen.
The movie has now crossed over $170 million at the global box office. The Second Season of the anime is currently in production at MAPPA and is scheduled to come out in 2023.
2. Tokyo Revengers
Tokyo Revengers has dominated the Oricon Monthly Charts for the last twelve months as it has been the top-selling manga series for more than half of those.
The series has released three volumes this year, with Volume 25, which was released in December, being the Best-Selling Volume of the year so far for the manga, selling over 1.1 million copies as of May. With the anime off to a staggering start and the release of Volume 9 of the manga series coinciding with the premiere of the anime as well, SPY x FAMILY has now become the 3rd Best-Selling Manga of the year in Japan and was also the Best-Selling Manga Series for April and May.
The series has sold over 5.8 million copies this year and sold over 2.3 million copies just in April and over 1.7 million copies in May.
Volume 9 has now sold over 1.3 million copies already, which is more than any of the three individual volumes of Tokyo Revengers released this year.
All the previous volumes of SPY x FAMILY have also been consistently charting amongst the Top 20 Manga in Oricon every week for the last two months, with the very first volume now having sold more than 2 million copies.
The series now has over 21 million copies in circulation in Japan, and with its humongous success, it certainly wouldn’t be a stretch to say that the series is well on its way to crossing 10 million copies in sales for 2022 and even surpassing Tokyo Revengers by the end of this fiscal year.
4. One Piece
One Piece is currently at the fourth spot after recently being surpassed by SPY x FAMILY. The latest volume has sold over 1.6 million copies in the first two months of its release, while Volume 101 of One Piece, which was released in December, has sold more than 1.79 million copies.
Volume 101 currently remains the Second Best-Selling Manga Volume for the fiscal year.

The manga initially shot to popularity with the broadcast of the immensely successful Television Drama Adaptation, which premiered in January on Fuji TV.
The TV Series starring Masaki Suda scored more than 20 million viewers weekly with Live+7 DVR viewing, as the manga reached 15 million copies in circulation during the broadcast.
Mystery to Iu Nakare (Do Not Say Mystery) has sold over 2.73 million copies in the fiscal year of 2022 so far. The series has also been nominated for the Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize alongside Young Jump’s Oshi no Ko, JoJolion (JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure Part 8), and Kaiju No. 8 from Jump+.
7. Demon Slayer
Demon Slayer has dominated the Oricon charts for the last two and a half years. But with the conclusion of the Entertainment District Arc in February, the series has now finally fallen out of the Top 5 and to the seventh spot in yearly charts, selling over 2.65 million copies this year so far.
8. Kaiju No. 8
Kaiju No. 8 has continued its remarkable run and is currently in 8th place on the list following the release of its latest volume in March, which has already sold over an insane 650,000 copies. 9. My Dress-Up Darling

Volume 9 debuted with a whopping 127,089 copies sold in its first three days, even surpassing the debut of both the volumes of Kaguya-sama: Love is War released this year, which sold over 90,000 and 85,000 copies, respectively.
The latest volume was released in March and has sold over a whopping 300,000 copies, achieving a very rare and incredible feat for a romance manga.
10. Blue Lock
Blue Lock takes the final place in the Top 10 and is currently Japan’s 10th Best-Selling Manga of the fiscal year of 2022. The series continues to enjoy a consistent and solid boost in the sales of its backlogs that it has gotten ever since the announcement of the anime adaptation by Studio 8bit. The anime is still a few months away, with the series set to air this fall, but the manga has already sold over 1.72 million copies this year.
The latest volume of Blue Lock was released last month and has already sold 143,941 copies within just 20 days of its release.
With the series showing so much potential before the anime, it would not be wrong to say that it might even challenge Kodansha’s blockbuster hit, Tokyo Revengers, once the anime starts its broadcast.

That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime kicks off the latter half of the list. The previous volume of the series was released in March and sold over 480,000 copies, bringing the total for the series to just above 1.525 million copies for this year.
