10 Most-Watched Anime of December 2022: Spy x Family, Blue Lock, and More

While the television ratings for SPY x FAMILY have been down in recent weeks, the anime has remained the Most-Watched Anime and TV Show in Japan on Streaming for ten consecutive weeks now. 

SPY x FAMILY has been the Most-Watched Anime on both TV and Streaming.

Most-Watched Anime December 2022: SPY x FAMILY

SPY x FAMILY has been the Most Popular New Anime of 2022 and has been another mega-successful anime for Shueisha. The manga has gone on to sell over 10 million copies since the first episode of the anime in April and has seen an unprecedented amount of success, the likes of which is uncommon for a Slice of Life series.

Although the anime still remains the Most-Watched Anime in both TV and Streaming, the television ratings for SPYx FAMILY have dipped as of late. 

While Episode 19 of the anime drew over 8.5 million viewers with an individual rating of 6.8%, Episode 22 saw a dip of more than a million, with a little over 7.5 million viewers tuning in that week.  

The first episode of Cour 2 (Episode 13) received an all-time high for the series and scored over 9.9 million viewers when it aired in October. But, the second cour overall has seen a significant drop as the season has progressed. 

Season 2 of SPY x FAMILY is already scheduled to premiere next year, and an Anime Original Movie is also set to hit the theatres in 2023. The mangaka, Tatsuya Endo, will be supervising the film and will also be writing the script. 

Season 1 will air its final episode this Saturday. 

Most-Watched Anime December 2022: Chainsaw Man

Chainsaw Man is the Second Most-Watched Anime and TV Show on Streaming in Japan for the eighth consecutive week. The anime has given the manga a massive boost, as expected, with the manga selling 1.25 million copies during the second month of the anime’s broadcast. 

To put things in comparison with recent Jump titles, SPY x FAMILY sold over 1.78 million copies during its second month of the anime broadcast, while Jujutsu Kaisen sold over 1.88 million copies in the same time period. 

One Piece has remained consistent in both Live TV and Streaming. It is the Third Most Popular Anime in Japan this December and has been copping steady television ratings of over 2% and 2.6 million viewers on average lately.

Gundam: The Witch from Mercury has been immensely popular on streaming and has been quite consistently the Fourth Most-Watched Anime on SVOD platforms. The anime was also averaging over 1.6 million viewers on Live TV as of the last update about the series from the source.

The mighty impressive sixth season of My Hero Academia, hailed by many as the best entry in the series so far, has been recording an impressive average of over 2.9 million viewers on Live TV in Japan as of late. The series is also currently the Fifth Most Popular Anime on Streaming. 

Meanwhile, the rerun of the Mugen Train Arc of Demon Slayer Season 2 has been outdoing both One Piece and My Hero Academia on Live TV Ratings. The first episode of the rerun garnered over 4.7 million viewers. 

Most-Watched Anime December 2022: Blue Lock

Bleach: Thousand Year Blood War, Bocchi the Rock and Blue Lock have also continued to do tremendously well in streaming and are all among the Top 10 Most-Watched Anime and Top 20 Most-Watched TV Shows in Japan this December. 

The Blue Lock anime has also given its manga a huge boost, with the manga series selling over 700,000 copies in November alone. You can check out the list below.
