‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Trailer Breaks GTA 6 Record in 12 Hours, Crosses 500M Views

Nerds and cinephiles alike are having a bit of a moment right now. First, the trailer for the epic conclusion to Denis Villeneuve’s Dune series dropped, and the overwhelmingly positive buzz surrounding the trailer certainly made it feel like it may just be the cinematic event of the year. Less than 24 hours later, the first trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day had also arrived, and it managed to shatter all kinds of expectations and records by becoming the most-watched trailer in history within hours of its release.

In what can only be considered a remarkable feat like no other so far, the trailer for Brand New Day has surpassed the previous 24-hour benchmark set by Grand Theft Auto VI (475 million views) in under 12 hours, going on to cross 500 million views in that time frame. It is the first time any trailer has reached this milestone.

There have been many discussions about the future of the superhero genre, but the scale of this trailer launch and the massive hype surrounding Brand New Day highlight the enduring popularity of the Spider-Man brand. Both Spider-Man and Batman are undeniably the biggest and most beloved superheroes, and are outliers in terms of the typical trends that follow the genre. Even among both of them, J. Jonah Jameson’s worst nemesis arguably stands alone at the summit.

Brand New Day Trailer Has Gained Over 260 Million Views From Holland and Spider-Man’s Official Instagram Handle Alone

A significant portion of the trailer’s views came from platforms beyond YouTube, with over 139 million views generated from Tom Holland’s Instagram alone and an additional 125 million from the official Spider-Man account. The trailer has also amassed 46 million views on Twitter/X and 36.7 million views on Zendaya’s Instagram, alongside more than 50 million views across multiple Sony YouTube channels. Additionally, it has garnered over 60 million views on TikTok via Sony’s official account.

This fragmented, cross-platform rollout reflects how blockbuster marketing has evolved, with studios leveraging every possible digital avenue to maximize reach.

Tom Holland’s Spider-Man franchise has been very well received by both fans and critics and is the highest-grossing standalone superhero franchise, outgrossing the Raimi Spider-Man films ($2.5 Billion) and The Dark Knight trilogy ($2.4 Billion), and has made over $3.9 Billion at the global box office so far.

Deadpool & Wolverine previously held the record for the most-watched movie trailer in 24 hours with over 365 million views. The current top 10 now stands as follows:

  1. Spider-Man: Brand New Day – 500M+ views
  2. Grand Theft Auto VI (Trailer 2) – ~475M
  3. Deadpool & Wolverine – 365M
  4. Spider-Man: No Way Home – 355.5M
  5. Avengers: Endgame – 289M
  6. Avengers: Infinity War – 264M
  7. Superman – 250M
  8. KGF Chapter 2 – 250M
  9. The Lion King – 224.6M
  10. It – 197M

This does seem like a solid year for the superhero genre, which is probably having its best at bat in years on both the small and the big screen. On the big screen, both the latest Spider-Man film and Avengers: Doomsday are in all likelihood set to be huge hits, in terms of the social chatter and discourse they will generate and the billions of dollars they could bring in to studios and theatres.

Meanwhile, on television, Invincible is back with its latest season and once again boasts a perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes. Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 premieres next week and has also been receiving glowing reviews for its own street-level MCU storytelling, and the much-anticipated final season of The Boys is set to premiere in a couple of weeks

‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ takes place 4 years after the events of ‘No Way Home’.

Official logline — “Peter is now an adult living entirely alone, having voluntarily erased himself from the lives and memories of those he loves. Crime-fighting in a New York that no longer knows his name, he’s devoted himself entirely to protecting his city – a full-time Spider-Man. But as the demands on him intensify, the pressure sparks a surprising physical evolution that threatens his existence, even as a strange new pattern of crimes gives rise to one of the most powerful threats he has ever faced.”
