Demon Slayer: Mugen Train Arc is the retelling of the events of the Demon Slayer Kimetsu no Yaiba: Mugen Train movie featuring 70 new cuts and a never-before-seen anime original episode centered around The Flame Hashira, Rengoku.

Despite it being a retelling of the events of the movie, the anime has managed to score a wild viewership in its late-night slot of Sunday, 11:15 pm. The anime original episode which was the premiere of Demon Slayer Season 2 saw an estimated viewership of 5.136 million households. The premiere scored a rating of 10% among all television households in Japan and was the most-watched anime episode of the week.

The first three episodes from this season of Demon Slayer saw more than 5 million people tuning in to it every week. Although the viewership has since declined to 5.9% households, it is most likely to pick up back again with the premiere of Entertainment District Arc.

It is noteworthy that the Mugen Train movie made over half a billion dollars in the Box Office worldwide and sold more than 1.5 million copies with its physical home release. But even with all that, the anime is seeing more viewership than One Piece and Detective Conan on a work night.

Following the broadcast of the premiere of the Mugen Train arc, all volumes of Demon Slayer manga have also been seen continuously charting in Oricon as the backlogs of the series sold more than 1 million copies in October. Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba features animation production by ufotable.
