Detective Conan: The Bride of Halloween is currently the highest-grossing film in Japan this year, making over 9.1 Billion Yen ($67 Million) at the Japanese Box Office since its release in April.

The film is directed by Susumu Mitsunaka (Haikyuu!!) and is the twenty-fifth instalment of the Case Closed film series.

It’s not really a surprise seeing Conan at the top spot, considering how much of a mainstream and household popularity this anime series has, with the anime garnering millions of viewers every week on television, even after being on air for more than two decades. The previous movie in the franchise, Detective Conan: The Scarlet Bullet, made over 7.6 Billion Yen at the domestic box office and was the third biggest blockbuster of 2021 in Japan.

Doraemon: Nobita’s Little Star Wars 2021 is the Second Highest-Grossing Anime Movie of 2022.

Most Popular Anime Movies of 2022: Doraemon

The latest Doraemon movie, Doraemon: Nobita’s Little Star Wars 2021, is currently the Second-Highest Grossing Anime Movie of the year and is the only other anime movie in the Top 10 for overall box office gross this year so far.

Doraemon: Nobita’s Little Star Wars 2021 is the 41st theatrical entry in the beloved Doraemon franchise and was released in the Japanese theatres back in March. During its run at the Domestic Box Office, the film accumulated over 2.64 billion Yen ($19.4 Million) and sold a total of over 2.2 million tickets.

Meanwhile, the latest Shin-chan movie, Crayon Shin-chan: Mononoke Ninja Chinpūden, was released the week after Detective Conan: The Bride of Halloween and is the 11th Highest-Grossing Film in Japan for the year. The 30th entry in the wildly popular Shin-chan series has made over 2 Billion Yen ($14.7 Million) so far at the domestic box office and is also the third highest-grossing anime film of 2022 so far.

Crayon Shin-chan: Mononoke Ninja Chinpūden is directed by Masakazu Hashimoto (Appare-Ranman, Fullmetal Alchemist) and features Shinnosuke (Shin-chan), who finds himself in a ninja family, as he attempts to unravel the mystery of his birth and protect the future of the earth and the “tomorrow” of his family.

The Quintessential Quintuplets also ended its run with a climax feature film that was released in late May in Japan. The series has been the biggest romantic comedy in recent memory, with the manga completely dominating the genre till 2021, after the premiere of the anime in 2019. The Quintessential Quintuplets Movie is just slightly behind Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero and made over 1.89 Billion Yen ($13.9 Million) during its run at the Domestic Box Office.
